A great opportunity for instrumental players and singers with some basic jazz experience, as well as more advanced players, to play and learn alongside several of the UK’s leading jazz artists.
Bringing a wealth of skills and experience as players and educators, the tutors team of Ed Jones (saxophone), Rebecca Nash (piano), Brigitte Beraha (vocal), and Keith Michael (drums) will lead a day of exciting sessions, aiming to strengthen and extend your range and confidence with the fundamentals of jazz playing.
The workshop will cover key aspects of harmony, rhythm, song structure, dynamics, interpretation, comping, improvisation, ensemble playing, interaction, and soloing. Vocalists will spend the day with Brigitte developing vocal range, along with exploring stylistic, rhythmic and harmonic awareness with a variety of songs, all in a relaxed and supportive environment.
There will be three morning and afternoon sessions, followed by an evening performance by the tutors in Hertford BEAM's 144-seat performance theatre (ticket included in the price of the workshop).

Your Tutors
Ed Jones is an award-winning UK jazz saxophonist and composer with over 35 years of experience based in London. Renowned for leading diverse projects and collaborations both domestically and internationally. As a band leader, composer, recording artist, and sideman he has worked with a numerous and impressive list of world class players. He is an active and dedicated educator, teaching both instrumental and ensemble classes at Leeds Conservatoire and several with jazz summer schools.
Rebecca Nash, having firmly established herself as a pianist withing the UK, garnering an international reputation for her distinctive sound, full of artistry and heart. With two solo albums and a third on the way, along with numerous composing commissions and concerts at home and abroad, Rebecca also regularly works as an educator for the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, the Royal Welsh College of Music, and Drama and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.
Brigitte Beraha is one of the most creative vocalists and composers on the UK scene, singing in a wide range of live and recording projects, with an impressive rostra international jazz artists. Singing with or without words, she is renowned for fearlessly testing the limits of the voice as instrument, and captivating audiences with her subtle and evocative interpretations of jazz, latin, and classical songs. Brigitte teaches jazz vocals at the Guildhall School of Music, Trinity Laban Conservatoire, and the Royal Welsh College of Music.
Keith Michael has played with numerous renowned jazz artists in the UK and internationally, with multiple live tours and session work in Japan, India, and other Asian countries. Based in the southwest, he plays and produces events at leading venues across the region as well as several Anglo-Japanese projects in the UK and Japan. As an educator he has led numerous jazz summer schools and continues teaching at Falmouth University Academy of Music and Theatre Arts.
